Digging into why songs matter...
I started this podcast mistakenly. I was in a course where I was supposed to start a podcast about being a podcast manager. But, oops, I started one about my passion, music! It is the best mistake I've made!
Through all the interviews I have gained such an appreciation for music, the creation process, and how music really affects people. My guests pick a song they have strong memories associated with. Now I remember what they shared when I hear the songs we discussed.
On a breezy evening in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, my co-host Rachel Steele and I decided to immerse ourselves in the local music scene at Palm Valley Outdoors Bar & Grill. I was assured there would be patio heaters on so their guests could still enjoy the music outside. There was no better place I could think of for our inaugural outing. This waterfront venue, known for its vibrant atmosphere and live performances, promised a night of relaxation and entertainment and we knew Robby and Felix were going to be there playing music.
As we arrived, the sun was setting, casting a golden hue, that later turned to shades of pink and blue, over the Intracoastal Waterway. I wore a cozy cute look of a hoodie layered with a puffy vest and Rachel was rather fancy in her deep red leather and fur vest. That night, the duo Robby & Felix were set to perform. I knew their talent and I was eager to have others experience their music for the first time. I waited nervously for someone to arrive. My friend Donna, co-host Rachel, her aunt (Alexis), mom (Kellie), and her mom's boyfriend (Josh) all joined me. Bless Josh's heart for putting up with all our chatter.
Their setlist was an eclectic mix of classic rock covers, modern hits, and other nostalgic tunes. That being said we were shocked they couldn't honor our requests of "Beautiful Things or Come Sail Away With Me." We tipped them anyway because we were impressed with everything they performed. Robby's soulful vocals paired seamlessly with Felix's intricate Violectra work (electric violin), which added an incredible layer to the music. They entertained in the background while the patio was a buzz. Everyone was clearly enjoying the music. I felt a little like I was in the scene of a movie.
Palm Valley Outdoors Bar & Grill is more than just a restaurant. The establishment boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, with the latter offering panoramic views of the waterway. The ambiance is a harmonious blend of rustic charm and coastal elegance. Wooden decks adorned with string lights, picnic tables, and a spacious bar area create an inviting atmosphere for guests of all ages. Boaters can dock directly at the restaurant, and before everyone arrived a couple did retreat into their boat that was docked for the night.
Of course, we couldn’t go out without ordering some great food and drinks. We started with cocktails, which were refreshing and just right for a night by the water. We placed our order with Russel our server who was a little wet behind the ears still. Rachel had Tuna Poke Salad which did not disappoint and Buffalo Chicken Wrap hard to screw up and they didn't. LOL Everything was delicious and hit the spot while we enjoyed the music.
Robby & Felix's performance was the highlight of the evening, showcasing the rich talent present in our local music scene. If you know a group we need to check out let us know!!
